The process of working with a brand identity designer

August 24, 2016

So, what's it like to work with a brand designer to build your own personal brand?

I'm going to take you step by step through the process to learn what to expect, how to best prepare, and some great strategy & tips to keep the project moving along!

My process

I start my process with a brand questionnaire, then schedule our brand consultation call. During an hour long conversation (phone or skype), we'll talk about your brand goals, likes, dislikes, platforms, needs and desires.

I'll ask you to begin a Pinterest board, then to share it with me. I'll add some additional images based on the questionnaire answers and specific brand words we've discussed.

Using those images, I will create an inspiration board (right).

Once we decide on an overall brand feeling and a color palette in a finalized inspiration board, I can start logo sketching (below).

I'll pick 4-6 and digitize them. Once we have the logo in place, the pattern and font suggestions round out the brand style guide

I'll gather up all of the finished files and send them over via a Dropbox link for your use.

If you need help with business cards, social media cover pages or printed materials, we can continue to apply your branded styles easily to new creative things.

Once you have your brand in place, it's easy to create cohesion without having to make the same choices over and over.

It honestly saves me from having to make more decisions....and I appreciate that!

Some people have a hard time getting started with this process. Others know exactly what they want and just need someone to execute their dreams for them. It's tricky to both capture your business identity and also think about the plan needed to market your new look.

That's why working with a brand designer can help!

Brand identity design is based on a system. By identifying the unique way your customer reaches you, a brand designer can create memorable experiences through each of those different channels.

If you already have a brand, but feel like it has evolved from where you started - a brand designer can help you to see what you've established in a new, fresh way.

Or if you are starting a small business, a brand designer can really edit all of your ideas and choices to a cohesive, consistent style.

Feel like having a brand brainstorming session? I offer them for free! Schedule with me at jessicabreedendesigns@gmail.com

Until next time,

jessica
